Lorain County is 495 square miles with a U.S. Bureau of the Census 2006 population estimate of 301,993. It is named
from the French providence of Lorraine.
Lorain County has nine cities, seven villages, and 18 townships. The County seat is the City of Elyria. There are three County Commissioners: Elizabeth C. Blair (Governing Board member), Ted Kalo (Governing Board member) and Lori A. Kokoski .
At the October 10, 2008 Board meeting, highlights of Lorain County activities was distributed.
Public transit service is provided by Lorain County Transit and the
Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. Lorain County is serviced by the Lorain County Regional Airport in Elyria, Ohio.
